Stephen Smith is an independent advisor on digital security risks. He has spent more than 30 years in the ICT industry with a focus on information security and has dedicated these past 10 years on risks associated with industrial control systems. He resides in Belgium and provides digital risk management services to local and multinational corporations; he has been primarily involved in utilities, manufacturing and transport sectors.
His career encompasses several years of management leadership in the areas of strategic alliances and partnerships, competitive analysis and new business development in the Information Communication & Technology (ICT) industry. His knowledge and experience is based on his 11 year stretch in North America and Europe with a major IT services and outsourcing company. He has also held a number of top management positions in small to medium size companies located in the Europe providing services and products throughout the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regions.
His work in Belgium indicated that there was a growing concern that the general security maturity level to deal with threats was not ingrained in organisations risk management culture. To this end, he produced a survey on Belgian companies, largely those with industrial control systems, to better understand the security maturity stance required to combat the growing cyber threat.
He takes a keen interest in assembling multidisciplinary teams to identify and resolve industrial cybersecurity risks. He is also engaged in public speaking to promote industrial cybersecurity awareness and engagement.
